The Ultimate Guide to Understanding Facial Fillers

The Ultimate Guide to Understanding Facial Fillers | Refresh Medical Spa in Overland Park, KS

The world of facial fillers is a magical place where your aesthetic dreams can come true, but unfortunately for many of our clients it can also be extremely overwhelming & daunting! There are so many different types, different prices, & different areas to treat, it can seem impossible to know where to start!

IF YOU HAVE EVER FELT OVERWHELMED BY ALL OF THE OPTIONS, YOU ARE NOT ALONE

We get these types of questions on a daily basis so we decided to address them here!

Dermal fillers are growing in global popularity because they are a relatively quick way for people to restore a fuller, fresher, and more youthful appearance. Whether one is suffering from the loss of youthful bone structure, volume deflation, fine lines and wrinkles, thin lips or folds, there is a dermal filler that can help you restore any of these areas with little to no downtime.

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

The majority of fillers – including the two most popular brands, Juvederm and Restylane – are made out of hyaluronic acid, which is a gel-like substance that is naturally found in the body. These gel substances can physically add volume to enhance shape & contours within the face.

ARE DERMAL FILLERS PERMANENT?

No. Since these gels are a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, our bodies will gradually metabolise them away over time. In general, dermal fillers last between 6-24 months. They last longest in the cheeks & the shortest around the mouth.

HOW DO FILLERS DIFFER FROM BOTOX/DYSPORT?

Fillers help to restore volume loss, fill wrinkles/hollowing & give a more lifted appearance by improving & decreasing the sagging in the lower half of the face. Fillers also help to enhance natural features & correct asymmetries. Facial fillers are sold by the syringe & provide immediate results, although some swelling and bruising may be present for up to two weeks following treatment.

Botox & Dysport function to relax muscles that create wrinkles with movement, therefore diminishing lines at rest & preventing them from forming in the future! Botox can create a softer, more well rested & approachable appearance! Other things we can use it for are TMJ, jawline slimming, & headaches! Botox is sold by the unit & results take up to 14 days to be fully achieved!

Botox & Fillers compliment each other perfectly & can both be done together to create optimal client results!

The Juvéderm Family

Juvéderm XC is injected into the skin to smooth mild to moderate wrinkles around your nose and mouth such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), the lines that run vertically between the mouth & the chin (marionette lines), or into the lips for moderate augmentation.

  • Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC can be injected in the same areas as Juvéderm XC, however it functions to smooth wrinkles that are moderate to severe & can add significant augmentation to the lips.

  • Volbella XC is injected into the lips and the lines surrounding the lips to temporarily add subtle volume to these areas.

  • Voluma XC is injected deep into the skin to restore volume loss to the cheeks, jawline, temples, & chin.

The Restylane Family

Restylane-L is injected into the skin to smooth away wrinkles and folds such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), the lines that run vertically between the mouth & the chin (marionette lines), into the under eyes for volume deficit restoration, or into the lips.

  • Restylane Kysse is injected into the lips and the lines around the lips to temporarily add fullness to the lips and help smooth the surrounding fine wrinkles (perioral lines).

  • Restylane Silk is injected into the lips and the lines around the lips to temporarily add fullness to the lips and help smooth the surrounding fine wrinkles (perioral lines). This product creates a slightly more subtle lip enhancement than you would achieve with Kysse.

  • Restylane Refyne is injected into the skin to smooth away fine wrinkles such as “laugh lines”, perioral lines, or into the lips for a subtle lip enhancement.

  • Restylane Defyne is injected into the skin to smooth away medium to moderate lines and wrinkles such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) & the lines that run vertically between the mouth & the chin (marionette lines). It can also be injected deep for augmentation of the cheeks, jawline, & chin. Lastly, this product can be injected into the lips to create slightly more defined shape and volume than Silk or Kysse do in the lips.

  • Restylane Lyft  is injected into the skin to smooth away medium to moderate lines and wrinkles such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Furthermore, it can be injected deep to increase the fullness of the cheeks & the temples where there may be a volume deficit.
